INFO AND PERMISSIONS

| information — NAME. nathan summers (cable — also known as nathan dayspring) AGE. early 50s. HEIGHT. CANON POINT. post-deadpool 2, right before wade starts altering the timeline. INTERPRETATION OPTIONS AND CANON FAMILIARITY. compliant with deadpool 2 (2018) and the xmcu as a whole. very very tentatively compliant with 616; i'm new to the comics, but feel free to throw anyone at me, chances are i've at least heard of them. fine with retconning comic/movie stuff and mixing media, like a more comic accurate backstory (born in the present, sent to live in the future, etc.), headcanoning his future as being the one seen in logan (2017) with him being one of the mutant children created by transigen, and anything else that would be cool to play. ALTS. TAGGING SPEED. it varies depending on the day and what's going on in my life, but i'm generally around more in the evenings (EST) and tend to tag quicker if we're doing textspam or action rather than prose. just because i go silent doesn't mean i'm not interested in playing with you, and i'll try my best to get to continue replying even if it's been awhile since my last tag. don't be afraid to reach out to me if you ever want to continue a thread that looks like it might have been dropped. likewise, i don't mind if you need to take your time either. CONTACT. pms, ask if you want my plurk or discord. history — NOTE. cable has the misfortune of being 1) a version of a comic character with one of the most convoluted backstories of all time, 2) in a franchise that's deliberately holding off on fleshing him out until the next sequel, which is 3) currently stuck in development hell. basically, until movie canon develops, i'll be mixing what we know about his movie backstory with headcanon and comic elements to fill in the gaps. BACKSTORY. cable's real name is nathan summers. he's the biological son of scott summers (cyclops) and jean grey (phoenix) and comes from an undisclosed point in time at least fifty years into the future. from what little we know of his childhood and what state his time is in, he was born into a world devastated by climate change and war, rampant with mutant crime and where the x-men were, as far as we know, no more. as an orphaned mutant living in an apocalyptic future, nate's powers — telekinesis and telepathy — began manifesting during his childhood, and he learned self-sufficiency and control at a very early age. he was taken in by the askani, a militant clan of mutant freedom fighters and rebels, given the askani name "dayspring" and trained to be a soldier. this violent upbringing has shaped nate in a profound way; being raised as a child soldier on the fringes of society has molded him into a killer, and he has difficulty with expressing himself and responding to threats nonviolently. as well, the askani's reverence for the x-men and nate's connection to them has left him with a tremendous amount of pressure to live up to the legacy of his legendary parents, a fact that bothers him more than he's willing to admit. at some point, possibly while still a child, he was infected with the techno-organic virus, a degenerative disease that slowly converts biomass into organic metal. nate has learned that he can use his psychic powers to hold the virus back and keep it from overtaking him, but it's still spread throughout the left side of his body, and with no sign of a cure, the disease appears to be terminal. over the years, nate — now going by the name "cable" — helped the askani oppose the authoritarian regime they lived under as well as the mutant criminals that thrived in it. under their tutelage, he was trained in a variety of advanced weaponry and technology the askani had access to, including graymalkin, a wrist-mounted time machine. through them he also met his future wife, aliya, who would eventually give birth to their daughter, hope. one of the mutants cable constantly clashed with was a serial killer named russell collins, who had taken the name "firefist". after years of using his pyrokinetic abilities to commit countless atrocities, firefist tracked down cable's home and burned it to the ground, murdering aliya and hope. cable returned to find his family's bodies with firefist nowhere in sight, time traveled back to 2018, and went on a mission to kill russell before he could become firefist. cue deadpool 2. abilities — TELEKINESIS AND TELEPATHY. cable is a mutant who genetically inherited his powers from his mother, jean grey, making him a powerful psychic. however, they're hampered by the techno-organic virus, an incurable disease that transforms matter into organic metal. cable is able to use his telepathy and telekinesis to keep the virus at bay, but this comes at the cost of severely limiting the full potential of his powers. still, he's able to use some degree of telekinesis (such as when he levitates his gun back into his hand during his attack on the ice box) and has the ability to read and communicate with minds, much like jean. TECHNO-ORGANIC PHYSIOLOGY. much of the left side of cable's body has been infected by the techno-organic virus and converted into living metal, including his left arm and eye. on the plus side, it's given him increased strength, speed and durability. he's strong enough to rip car doors off their hinges, can jump over speeding cars with ease, and can take an absolutely crazy amount of abuse like being kicked in the chest by the juggernaut and surviving a massive truck crash that levels an entire bridge and street. his techno-organic eye also has some advanced scanning abilities, able to give him information on his surroundings and the technology around him. additionally, he's also shown to have the ability to interface with technology; in the ice box, he was able to hack its security systems by grabbing onto a cluster of exposed wiring with his techno-organic arm and using the information that was transferred into his eye to read the building's layout. permissions — BACKTAGGING. yes. TELEPATHY. nate's a telepath so this is unavoidable; let me know if mind reading is off limits for your character. likewise, if you want to read his mind, just give me a heads-up so i can make sure i'm writing accordingly! FIGHTING/INJURY. yes. DEATH. nah. FOURTH-WALLING. unless you're deadpool, please ask! HUGGING/KISSING/FLIRTING. probably not a good idea, but if there's build-up and positive cr beforehand, we can find a way to make it work. shipping — YES. deadpool, domino, charles, logan, storm, crosscanon. MAYBE. most of the adult x-men, mcus, 616 characters, characters 25+. anyone else not listed under no, just ask. NO. summers family, incest, erik, peter (quicksilver), gamora, nebula, characters under 25, aged-up characters. |
